On Thursday afternoon, March 31, the new Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Liesje Schreinemacher, and Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Birgitta Tazelaar will be joining us in the World Café studio. They will gather input from southern speakers for the new policy paper expected to be presented in June.

Like her predecessors, Minister Schreinemacher will publish a policy paper that lays down the focus of her policy for the upcoming years. In the run-up to this, a (partially online) consultation process is planned, that will be started in the course of March. The aim of the consultation is to gather input from various stakeholders including Dutch civil society organizations, their southern partners and corporates, on key themes and opportunities.

In the first part of this World Café, presenter Ama van Dantzig will talk with the minister about the importance of the new policy, her first findings as Minister and the type of input she would like to gather for the policy paper. What does she consider most innovative in the sector and where does she see opportunities? What could be improved She will also connect with southern actors: questions will be submitted via video messages. Guests will join virtually to give their input for the new policy document. They will share stories that inspire; stories about innovation and opportunities to achieve collaboration as equal partners.

In the second part of this World Cafe, we will talk with Birgitta Tazelaar and two representatives from the global South about the consultation and the new policy. How can we achieve more policy coherence?  And how can we create public support in society for new policy in the field of international cooperation these days?
